The Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) has received the baseline report for the proposed regeneration plans for slums in Somolu/Bariga and Ifelodun/Ijora/Badiya Communities.

The General Manager of LASURA, Ms. Ajibike Shomade, who received the report on behalf of the Agency from the Consultants, Messrs. Sanni & Associates, in her office recently, said the baseline report was a reflection of the current situation of the slum areas, which would assist in the situation analysis and the subsequent intervention by the Agency.

Shomade expressed satisfaction with the report and urged the consultants to incorporate the comments and observations made by the Agency to achieve a final report that is not only robust but also up-to-date that will assist urban renewal in the State.

He explained that the Lagos State Government was determined to give a face-lift to blighted areas in the State as exemplified by the move to address the situation in the aforementioned areas in addition to the many interventions of Government in Somolu and Ifelodun Local Government Areas.

“Government has been giving a facelift to slum areas in the State partly in order to make Government impact felt in those areas and achieve the reality of making Lagos a 21st Century Economy that would drive socio-economic growth”, she said.

The Director, Urban Planning and Development, LASURA, Tpl. Raheem Sulyman also applauded the baseline report and urged the consultants to expedite action on the final report in line with Government deadlines.

The representative of the Consultants, Messrs. Sanni & Associates, Tpl. Sanni Kamil thanked the Lagos State Government for the opportunity to contribute to the development of the State through the regeneration plan being prepared, whilst promising to incorporate the vital observations made.
